Annada Shankara verdict

Annada Shankar Roy (May 15, 1904 - October 28, 2002) , a reputable Bengali poet and writer. He was born in Orissa district of India. He is also a famous queen.

Life : Annada Shankar was born in British India in Orissa. His father was Nimayicharan Ray of Dhenkanal Rajstate, and his mother was Hemanlini, daughter of the celebrated dynasty of Katak. His childhood began in Dhenankal in his childhood. He passed matriculation examination from Patna University in 1921. Then he went to the editor of the newspaper Basumati to Hemendra Prasad Ghosh to learn the editorship of the newspaper. He learned short-hand, typing and proofreading. But he did not like this work. He then passed IA examination from Rawshan College in Cuttack and got his first position in Patna University. He got his first position in English literature from Patna University in BA examination in 1925. In 1927, he got his first position in the ICS examination to read the MA in the second and then break the previous record. He was the first Indian to get this glory. In that year, he went to England from the ICS at Government cost. There he stayed for two years. During this time his series of journeys was published in a variety of ways.

In 1930, American daughter Alice married Virginia Onford, who named him Leela Roy. Leela Roy translated many books from Bengali to English. Many of Annada Shankar's writings were published in the name of Lilama. In 1936, he first joined the Nadia District Magistrate. He has been appointed as Judge of Comilla District in various districts from this post for years. From 1940 to 1949, he was appointed as a public servant, and in 1950, he became the secretary of the judiciary of West Bengal. In 1951, he voluntarily retired from government jobs.

Action : Annada Shankar played role in both prose and verse. His literary works were included in the school syllabus in Bangladesh.

Medals, awards and honors : Annada Shankar Roy was awarded many awards for his literary work.

In 1979, the University of Calcutta awarded him the Jagatarini Award. Vishwabharati University honored him with utmost respect. Burdwan University, Rabindra Bharati University and Jadavpur University awarded him the honorary Doctor of Literature (Dilit) title. 

Other awards included in the Annada Shankar judgment include:  Sahitya Akademi Award (1962), Ananda Puraskar (twice -1983, 1994), Vidyasagar Puraskar, Shiromani Puraskar (1995), Rabindra Puraskar, Nazrul Award, Bangladesh's Jebunnisa Award 

Death : Annada Shankar Roy died on October 28, 2002.
